Sean Cimino writes with movement in mind, landing somewhere between instinct and architecture. As a songwriter, producer, and composer, he crafts music that shifts between post-punk urgency, cinematic sprawl, and rhythmic precision.
For 14 years, as guitarist, programmer, and songwriter, Cimino was a member of Foster the People, the Grammy-nominated band that emerged in the 2010s with shimmering, off-kilter pop. His time with the band took him across the world—from festival stages at Coachella, Glastonbury, and Fuji Rock to late-night TV appearances on SNL and The Tonight Show— culminating in a live tribute to the Beach Boys at the Grammys. His songwriting contributions extended beyond the band’s albums, landing "Style" in the film Countdown.
Cimino has worked with Grammy-winning producers like Paul Epworth (Coldplay, U2, Paul McCartney), Greg Kurstin (Beck, Kendrick Lamar, Foo Fighters), and Rich Costey (Interpol, Muse, Nine Inch Nails)—all known for shaping genre-defining records. These are producers who understand how to turn space into structure and Cimino has absorbed that approach. That same sense of depth and dynamics fuels Peel, his post-punk project, which has drawn praise from Paste, Clash, and Flood Magazine, with "Citizen X" landing on the FIFA 21 soundtrack. A previously unreleased Peel song found its way into Aidy Bryant’s Shrill [HULU], while another track was featured in Carlson Young’s The Blazing World. Now, Cimino is expanding into composition, collaborating with Emmy-nominated composer Adam Taylor (The Handmaid’s Tale) on an upcoming album set for release this year, alongside the launch of his solo ambient project, Aur, in September.
Whether crafting post-punk landscapes, cinematic compositions, or immersive sonic textures, Cimino’s work lingers—defined by space, tension, and what lies beneath.
